Here Is A Fun Halloween Craft For Kids - Wild Spiders
This is one of my most wanted Halloween crafts for kids. It is fast and simple, may be done with a crowd if necessary, and is an excellent technique to practice cutting and fine motor skills with younger kids. Older kids will be able to let their imaginations take over and put together some truly wacky Halloween spiders!
You will need:
Black construction paper
Scissors
Glue or sticky-tape
Googly eyes (optional) or pieces of paper and pens
Instructions:
Cut a rectangle of paper roughly 3 inches by 3 1/2 inches. Tuck the short side over about an inch making a crease, then open it up again.
Turn the paper so that the pleat is horizontal, then cut the paper in 7 even lines up to the crease to produce eight spider's legs. For younger children, pencil in the lines for them to repeat cutting on. For bigger children, show them how to produce the first cut at the middle, dividing the space below the fold into 2 halves. Then show them how to divide up each half again to make quarters, and then the quarters to make eighths. There's no need to be too precise.
Now put the spider around the child's finger and fasten using sticky-tape or glue. Remove the spider once more and decorate - either with scraps of paper or with googly eyes. Position the spider back on the finger and twist the legs into shape or wind them around a pencil.
Variations:
Suspend the spiders! Just cut a length of black yarn (wool) and connect inside the head of the spider using a small piece of sticky-tape.
Craft smaller versions of these spiders to adorn the ends of Halloween pencils.
Put small spiders around straws to adorn your Halloween table! Make several bigger spiders and distribute them around the table too.
Cut a small slit on both sides of the spider's head and insert a name card transforming these spiders into spooky place markers!
Once the body of the spider has been made but also before decorating, place a black pipe cleaner around the head of the spider to provide a furry effect. The protruding edge of the pipe cleaner can be arched into a hook shape, that will make the spider easy to swing from shelves, the tops of doors, and other spooky locations! Stick googly eyes on the top of the pipe cleaner.
